  Distinguishing between Theory, Theoretical Framework, and Conceptual Across many years of teaching Research Methods and assessing many applications for admission into higher degree studies which require an understanding of theories, principles, strategies and skills needed to complete a higher degree such as a Masters or a PhD, one of the things I have found problematic for many students is the inability to articulate differences between theory, theoretical framework and a conceptual framework for a proposed research project.               SCIENCE AND WONDER Thousands of years ago, our explanations about how the world worked were not very good. Things we couldn't understand were attributed to praise or vengeance from gods, or thinking the world was random. Thanks to science, we have a much better idea about why things are the way they are. Issues concerning scientific explanation have been a focus of philosophical attention from Pre-Socratic times through the modern period. Gender and Sexuality Sex “Sex” refers to physiological differences found among male, female, and various intersex bodies. Sex includes both  primary sex characteristics  (those related to the reproductive system) and  secondary sex characteristics  (those that are not directly related to the reproductive system, such as breasts and facial hair). MORAL PHILOSOPHY  Ethics , also called  moral philosophy , the  discipline  concerned with what is morally good and bad and morally right and wrong.  EPISTEMOLOGY OF TESTIMONY  Testimony is an important source of knowledge in many contexts, including that of education, but the notion of the teacher as testifier is not often discussed. Since much that is believed by individuals has come to them not from direct experience but by accepting the accounts of others, the trustworthiness of their interlocutors' testimonies, whether these be spoken, textual or electronic in form, is an important factor in determining whether or not they acquire true, justified beliefs.  Perhaps most of what we take ourselves to know about the world and its history comes from testimony we have received.
